Anxiety
Depression Symptoms
It is possible for people to have anxiety and
depression. While these may sound like opposite problems, they
often go hand in hand. Anxiety depression symptoms
encompass both depression symptoms and anxiety symptoms. Together
they are known as anxiety depression symptoms.
A person who is depressed will experience very
intense emotions of despair, sadness, anger or hopelessness. Their
energy levels are usually low and they may be overwhelmed with day
to day living. A person who is suffering from an anxiety problem
can experience panic and fear in certain situations where other
people would not feel anxiety. A person with an anxiety problem may
worry endlessly about things and their anxiety can be manifested in
physical symptoms such as shaking, panic attacks, upset stomach and
more. Both depression and anxiety disorders can restrict a person’s
ability to maintain relationships, leave their home and even
work.
No one knows why
an individual will have both anxiety depression symptoms. However,
nearly 85 percent of people who are diagnosed with depression also
have some form of anxiety. Of the 85 percent who have depression
and anxiety, 35 percent of them are so anxious that they are
diagnosed with a panic disorder.
An individual who is suffering from anxiety
depression symptoms may feel that overcoming their depression and
anxiety is an insurmountable task. Why? Studies show that people
who have anxiety and depression will have more severe symptoms than
someone who has either depression or anxiety. Depression can make
anxiety worse and anxiety can make the depression worse.
To overcome anxiety depression symptoms it is
often necessary to start anti depression and/or anxiety medication.
Luckily, there are some medications that treat both the anxiety and
depression. The medication that is prescribed is based purely on
the patient, their symptoms, body type and chemistry and age.
It is often necessary for people who are
suffering from anxiety depression symptoms to undergo therapy.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy can help people learn to manage their
thoughts and feelings, identify triggers and learn new coping
techniques.
You should be mindful of anxiety depression
symptoms in yourself and your loved ones. The sadness,
anxiousness and an empty mood is not something people can snap out
of, no matter how hard they wish it were so. The sadness that
depressed people feel is not the normal “blues.” It is persistent
and the person cannot shake it on their own. The anxiousness that
accompanies anxiety depression is not the usual jittery or
butterfly feeling that many of us experience on occasion. This type
of anxiousness can truly make it difficult for the person to
function on a daily basis and can lead to phobias and unwarranted
fears.
The good new is that people do recover from
anxiety depression. There are many medications that can ease the
anxiety depression symptoms. If one medication
does not help, there are many others that can be prescribed. In
addition to therapy, many people benefit from joining a support
group. People who are not up to going to a physical group can
easily find support groups and forums via the Internet. Many people
find that connecting with others who are experiencing the same kind
of issues can go far in the healing process.
