Mental Depression Is A Common Problem

Mental depression is a common psychological problem. It is said that mental depression will affect most every individual – either by people experiencing mental depression themselves or having a friend or family member who is suffering from mental depression.

Many people are surprised to learn that over 17 million people in the United States alone are diagnosed with mental depression each year. This is a staggering figure.

Mental depression affects people on every level. It can interfere with a person’s normal day to day activities, their career, social interactions and family life. It can cause a tremendous amount of pain and suffering and it can even lead to suicide. It is important that someone who is suffering from mental depression find the help they need as soon as possible. No one should ever feel that depression is a part of life. There are medications and therapy options for people to help them manage and overcome their mental depression.

T o put it simply, depression changes how a person feels and thinks. It affects their social behavior and their feelings of self worth and it can harm them on a physical level. Many people experience the blues on occasion. It is important that people are educated to understand that mental depression is not simply a case of the blues. The blues will pass within a day or so. Mental depression can linger and intensify over time.

No one is immune from depression. It can affect anyone. Learning how to identify depression is the key to getting help and getting diagnosed. Sadly, it is believed that nearly 2/3 of individuals who suffer from mental depression do not get the treatment they need. These people are living a life of misery and agony. Many times people do not seek out help because they do not recognize they are depressed. They may think the way they feel is due to an illness or a misdiagnosed physical problem. Other people do not seek out help for their depression because they may think it is a sign of weakness. This is especially relevant in men. Men are less likely to seek out treatment for their depression than women. Men are more likely to mask their depression with drugs or alcohol. Men are depressed are also more likely to commit suicide than women. This is reason alone to prompt people to seek out treatment for mental depression. You can’t self medicate depression or pretend it does not exist. Eventually, it can become so disabling that you may be unable to seek out help.

The good news is that with proper treatment depression can be beaten. Through medication, therapy and self help techniques people can get through their dark depression and come out in the light.

No one knows for sure what causes mental depression. However, here is a list of possible things that can trigger mental depression:
